Similar to how reading a riveting novel can transport you to a new world, dining at an exotic restaurant that serves authentic, international cuisine can transport you to that native country.  Although delectable Mexican food and exquisite Italian dishes can be found around every corner in Calabasas, a truly satisfying Asian fusion meal is not as simple to acquire.  While P.F. Chang’s is nearby and Pick Up Stix is take out, these eateries certainly do not meet the standards of those in Asia.  Luckily, Santa Monica harbors a true gem of Asian dining establishments – Buddha’s Belly.

Nestled between other popular businesses, Buddha’s Belly can easily be overlooked.  However, a step inside the glass double doors offers a beautiful display of Asian-inspired paintings, elegant chandeliers and simple yet delicate centerpieces.  Buddha’s Belly’s satisfying food contains intense yet pleasing spices and seasonings with the unmistakable flavors of the Far East.

Buddha’s Belly combines Thai, Japanese and Chinese cuisines to create spectacular meals.  The broad range of dishes, which include several combinations of noodles, fish, vegetables, meat and rice, appeal to a wide variety of customers.  The multitude of appetizers, including Japanese specialties such as the Tuna Volcano and the Albacore and Avocado Roll, are perfect precursors to a mouth-watering entrée.  If you desire a more substantial meal immediately, you should order a Korean dish such as tender barbecue marinated sirloin or a Thai one like the classically delicious Pad Thai.

Once the “food coma” wears off, this exceptional establishment will always lure back those craving a little taste of Asia.  Warning: eat too much and you will surely leave with a literal Buddha’s belly!
