The 2013 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony

The 2013 Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony

Imagine going to a place where one can witness the transformation of Rock and Roll from the Beatles to Aerosmith. If one is looking for a location that captures the true essence of Rock and Roll history and memorabilia, the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is surely the place to go. On April 18 the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is hosting its 28th Annual Induction Ceremony. Since the opening of this prestigious establishment, the committee that oversees the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame has dedicated itself to seeking out the most prominent musicians and outstanding contributors to the music industry to recognize in the museum. The induction ceremony is held in honor of two catergories: the receiving artists and the receivers of the Ahmet Ertegun Award of Lifetime Achievement for non-performers. The Ahmet Ertegun Award of Lifetime Achievement is an award for those who primarily work behind the scenes in the music industry.  The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame Foundation’s committee, which pays close attention to both the performers’ and non-performers’ contributions, nominates promising inductees. The nominees are then sent to over 600 different world-renowned musicians, historians and other members in the music industry for a final decision. The nominations with the most votes in a single category are then chosen to be the year’s honored inductees.

Among the many nominees is the gifted Donna Summers. To this generation, the name Donna Summers may not hold much meaning; however, she is a memorable singer from the disco era. One of her greatest hits is “No More Tears (Enough Is Enough),” which she performed with the Tony award-winning Barbra Striesand in 1979. Summers’ title, the “Queen of Disco,” is a reflection of her immense contributions to music in the 1970s. Summers has released enduring classics that have lasted more than three decades and has earned herself a well-deserved spot in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

The induction ceremony will recognize both Quincy Jones and Lou Adler for the Ahmet Ertegun Award of Lifetime Achievement. Jones has produced numerous hit songs for Summers and the E.T. soundtrack. As for Adler, he has won two Grammy awards for producing Carole King’s hit song “It’s Too Late.” Adler is also widely known for producing The Rocky Horror Picture Show in 1975. Both Jones and Alder are recognized for their admirable work in the music production of timeless masterpieces for some of the world’s most talented performers and critically-acclaimed movies.

At the induction ceremony these classic performers and non-performers are honored with the routines by talented present-day artists such as John Mayer, Christina Aguilera and Jennifer Hudson, along with Dave Grohl and Taylor Hawkins from the band the Foo Fighters.
