Have you ever wished to see your favorite movie back on the big screen, or better yet, in 3D? If so, you are in luck. And, personally, I could not be more excited. Inspired by the incredible profits that recently poured in from the re-release of The Lion King, a new trend has sparked for bringing classics back to life and renovating them in 3D. For many, this is an excellent opportunity to head to the theater for a second go-around of their most beloved movies; while for others, it is a chance to experience these movies for the very first time on the silver screen. With the return of childhood favorites, older and younger generations alike can enjoy viewing them in their local theaters. Upcoming classics that are arriving soon include Beauty and the Beast, Star Wars and Titanic, all of which I personally cannot wait to go see! Just as classics are timeless, so too, is the ability to enjoy them.

Rating: PG-13

One Day is a lovely adaptation of David Nicholls’ 2009 bestselling novel that depicts a relationship between two people through events that happen annually, beginning the day they met, July 15, 1988. Anne Hathaway and Jim Sturgess are a great pair that display wonderful on screen chemistry. Anne Hathaway plays the young intellectual poet-to-be, Emma, who starts out with a secret crush on Jim Sturgess’ character, Dexter, the party boy who lives life in the fast lane. Throughout the film, we see their friendship develop from an awkward beginning into a passionate affair. Although love stories are not usually my thing, One Day was an incredible exception that left me completely bawling. Some critics say that it did not live up to expectations, however, if you ask me, it was very well done…I know have an entirely new opinion of romantic movies!

Since it is not enough that The Twilight Saga has taken over our theaters, our bookshelves and our (or at least my) thoughts, the series also moved to Broadway. On January 16th, at The New World Stages in the Big Apple (New York City, DUH), the play took on a more comedic side than the adorably cheesy book and movie series. But before I go on, I must clarify that the Twilight Series and I have a unique love/hate relationship; I have read each book at least three times *embarrassing* and still love re-reading the books when I find myself daydreaming about my imaginary boyfriend. However, at times I must acknowledge the stupidity of the whole thing: the acting (except of course the acting of my future husband Robert Pattinson, who deserved an Emmy), in the first movie may have ruined the first three books for me. Also the fact that the chances of me finding my vampire soul mate are slightly rare, makes the whole thing a little craycray. The play received quite fabulous reviews; critics especially praised the actors. From the many twilight and vampire spoofs out there, you would think that this play would contain the same average and repetitive humor, but the critics were impressed but the fresh take on the vampire parody. I shall remain a fan and of course a part of TEAM EDWARD for as long as I will live. And it is quite comforting to know that I am not the only one that hates loving the iconic series.

I can undeniably say that I love Mexican food, but I often find myself tired of the usual El Torito and Chipotle. For those of you who feel the same way and want to try something different, Sabor, Casa Escobar, and Sol y Luna, are three unexpected Mexican treasures in the area, that will surely satisfy your craving for great Mexican food.

One might call Sabor “the romance of Mexican cuisine.” Sabor combines the rich Mexican tradition with the flare of modern Mexico. To take advantage of the best local and seasonal findings, the restaurant’s specials are constantly changing. The exceptional menu, which features a plethora of delicious Mexican Dishes, will always give you a chance to try something new. Although the restaurant is located in Thousand Oaks, it is worth the drive.Inspired by Colonial villages throughout Mexico, the interior designers wanted to reinvent the way people experience Mexican dining. The owners even went as far as to order furniture directly from Guadalajara to put the finishing touch on the atmosphere. Sabor has never gotten any bad reviews; people can only talk about mouthwatering dishes that I have yet to taste for myself.

Sol y Luna, Mexican for “The Sun and Moon,” is a popular local restaurant which was established in 2004 by Alejandro and Norma Morales. Located at 19601Ventura Boulevard in Tarzana, Sol y Luna is the go-to Mexican Restaurant for its fun atmosphere and delectable food. The friendly staff, high quality ingredients and an overall wonderful dining experience are top priorities at the restaurant. At Sol y Luna you can pretty much get any Mexican dish possible, just a whole lot better. Known by many as one of the best Mexican restaurants in the area, options range from tamales to tacos and everything in between. Take the short drive down Ventura Boulevard and learn for yourself why Sol y Luna is loved by anyone who knows a good taco.

What makes Casa Escobar so special is the family heritage that is embedded into every bite of the rich Mexican food. Juan and Rosa Escobar opened the restaurant in 1946, with the goal of bringing their love of Mexican Food to the valley. The original owners passed down their love for authentic Mexican fare to their children, who in turn passed it down to their daughter and current co-owner, Jessica Escobar. Still using her great grandparent’s original recipes, Casa Escobar‘s most popular dishes are their Chicken Mole Enchiladas, Arroz con Mariscos, and signature tacos. Upon visiting Casa Escobar for the first time, I opted to try their signature shrimp tacos, and had never tasted such a delicious Mexican meal. The true Latin culture was visible through the vibrantly decorated interior and the fun Mexican ambiance which only added to the delicious authenticity of their cuisine. Bottom line, you would be “loco” not to try it!

For those several million people who live to experience that three day-long musical melting-pot, the Coachella Line-up has finally been released! Although I neverthought it was possible, Coachella has out done itself yet again. I have attended this weekend of bliss for the past two years now, and I would be lying if I said I don’t pee my pants with excitement every time I think about it.From indie rockers to mainstream rappers, Coachella has got you covered; all the best artists from every corner of my iPod will be there. I’ll start with a few of the greats:

Arctic Monkeys!

Bon Iver!

AVICII AND CALVIN HARRIS! Girl Talk! Swedish House Mafia!

Justice! Kascade! Nero (so much pumpin’ techno)!

Snoop Dogg (never been more excited to see someone cuss intoa microphone)!

Florence and the Machine (again)!

The Black Keys (again)!

RADIOHEAD!

The list couldbe significantly longer, but I don’t want to you get too eager too soon. Forthose of you who haven’t experienced the indescribable fun of attendingCoachella, do your personal health a favor and unwind with a weekend filledwith dancing in the sun to your iTunes favorites (unless the tickets haven’tsold out completely already)

The New Year ushers in exciting new changes into all aspects of life; new clothingtrends, new movies and, this year, a new music genre. Starting off in Europeand Australia, ‘Nu Disco’ has finally come to the United States. The new agegenre is inspired by our old friend Disco -hence the genre name- as well as electroand European dance music, mixed in with a splash of modern techno. Whilelistening to Nu Disco, it is quite difficult to escape the urge of throwing onmy funkiest flare jeans and breaking out into the Shuffle. The beat is quickand usually has a high energy level to it, unlike the slightly depressingdrones of Dub Step (no offense to the lovers of D-Step). The musicianscurrently following the Nu Disco trend include Aeroplane, Cut//Copy, Breakbot,James Murphy, and Justice (who will be playing at Coachella Music Festival 2012),and Daft Punk. So I suggest to all of you readers to check out this new genre, because you never know: it may become you new favorite.

I have always hated having to make flashcards. But, I love to study them; I cram and filter through flashcards, using them as my primary method of memorization when a test is coming up. Flashcards*, a universal application that can be used on the iPhone and iPad interfaces from the App Store, was created by Jeff Holliday. Before I discovered the app, making flashcards used to be such a hassle; I always regretted the amount of time and paper that went into making hundreds of flashcards. Now, I can make new cards, share them with my friends, and download them onto any iDevice so I can study them on the go. Flashcards* allows me to create a flashcard library that can hold thousands of cards (you can even add pictures to help you study). I can browse through the cards with ease, study them in any order and star the cards I need to study more often while the app keeps track of my progress. Above all I can download flashcards for any subject imaginable straight, from Quizlet.com. With this app I manage to save hours of toil. I challenge myself to do better and better on my tests, now that memorizing hundreds of terms has become so easy with this simple and straightforward flashcard app.
