The Associated Student Body is holding its first Club Donation Drive Nov. 5-16.  Students are able to contribute items to school clubs. Plastic containers are in front of the administration office for the donations.

This semester at CHS, over 80 clubs are actively meeting.  Many of these clubs are based on community service activities.  The goal of the club donation drive is to get CHS students involved with service projects.  The event is meant to promote participation and reach out to the Calabasas community.

“I am excited about the drive because there are so many animals in need at local shelters,” said senior Melanie Edwards, Pennies for Paws co-president.  “This is an easy way to become involved and help shelters make their kennels more comfortable while the animals wait for a home.”

The clubs participating in the donation drive are associated with various charities.  Among those partaking in the drive arePennies for Paws, which is collecting slightly used towels, water bowls and leashes, Operation Gratitude, which is collecting candy for soldiers’ care packages and Soles4Souls, which is collecting new or slightly worn shoes for children in need.  All donations will be directly sent to the clubs’ respective charities.

“The donation drive is a great new way to get people to participate,” said junior Paige Plaskoff, No Worries Now president and ASB Community Outreach Commissioner.  “We are asking for dresses in good condition for teenage girls, so they do not need to buy dresses on their own for the No Worries Now prom for cancer patients.”

CHS hopes to increase recognition of the clubs partaking in the drive.  Another event dedicated to selling and collecting merchandise for club charities will take place later this year.
