On Friday, March 18, the advanced all-girls Vivace choir will host the annual Chamber Music Concert in the new Black Box Theater in the Performing Arts Education Center.  Vivace will hold the concert to showcase each student’s own talent through her personalized performance.

Students participating in the concert will arrange their own acts, makeup, costumes and props.  This process gives student performers the ability to organize their own pieces, allowing each member of the class to individually convey the message of her own performance. There are 23 girls in the Vivace choir who are collaborating to sing in duets, small groups or solos during the concert.  Performances will include Broadway classics as well as modern rhythm and blues music.

“This is going to be an exciting show. Performing in the Black Box Theater gives student performers the right vibe and atmosphere,” said music director Joshua Barroll.  “It is a requirement that everyone has an opportunity to solo, meaning some students who normally only sing as a choir will solo even if they never have before.”

Because students are creating their own performances, they must go through an extensive approval process before claiming their spots in the show.  The first step of the process consists of choosing a song.  Once Barroll approves the song, students must perform the song for him as if they were in the concert.  After the performance is approved, coaches will assist students in preparing for the concert.

“I hope audience members see how much untapped individual talent there is behind choir,” said Vivace member Sydney Easton.  “Every girl has a beautiful voice that makes our choir whole.  In this concert you will be able to hear each individual contribution to our choir.”

Barroll focuses his attention on preparing students to succeed in professional musical auditions. He feels that audience members will be excited to see the choir students perform in different styles of music and different arrangements.
