Indian Hills High School relocates to CHS campus

Indian Hills High School relocates to CHS campus

At the start of the 2013-2014 school year, Indian Hills High School divided into two campuses, one still residing on the Agoura High School campus and one at CHS.  The division of IHHS was requested by CHS Principal C.J. Foss and the decision was approved by the district and school board last April.

“I requested the split so that more CHS students would have the opportunity to take advantage of a credit recovery program,.” said Foss.  “In the past, very few CHS students wanted to drive to the Agoura High School campus. Students fall behind credits for a variety of reasons, often because of health issues of a family member, so it is important to embrace our student body and differentiate instruction for these students.”

Although IHHS will be split in to two campuses, the curriculum will remain the same at both campuses.  Along with new teachers at IH-East, the name of the CHS campus, this location also brings the addition of Greg Jackson as a part-time counselor for the IH-East student body.  CHS English teacher Ian Godburn will also teach as a one period coordinator.

“The addition of the Indian Hills program to the Calabasas campus provides a great option for students to recover credits and get back on track,” said Jackson.  “Indian Hills is a dynamic environment that offers small classroom instruction with the ability to earn credits at an accelerated pace.  This is the best of both worlds for the students at Indian Hills.  They have the opportunity to recover their credits and make up classes while still having full access to programs and activities at CHS.”

While IHHS is a school of its own, the students will “push-in,” or integrate, in to CHS classes, and some CHS students will also “push-in” to IH-East classes as the need arises to recover credits that they have lost in previous semesters.  According to Foss, there are currently 20 students in the Indian Hills program, and more are enrolling.
