Fundraising for Mr. Ludmer

Brian Ludmer, the Performing Arts Technical Director and stage crew teacher at CHS, was recently injured in the Los Angeles International Airport shooting.  He was shot in the back of his right leg, causing his tibia and fibula to shatter.  Ludmer’s four siblings, Nick, Matt, Graham and Sarah, have put together a website on www.youcaring.com, which allows community members to raise money for Ludmer’s medical bills.  Any extra money donated to the fund will be sent to the Brady Campaign to help lower gun violence.  This campaign raises awareness about gun violence and keeps people updated on how the government is dealing with this issue.

“Brian’s long held interest in reducing gun violence has understandably been heightened,” said Ludmer’s siblings to www.youcaring.com.

On the website, Ludmer’s siblings are continuously posting updates and notes from Ludmer.  CHS has also helped make contributions to raising money for Ludmer.  On Nov. 15, during lunch, a fundraiser was held in the lower quad to raise money. Ludmer underwent multiple surgeries for his several compound fractures. He is predicted to make a full recovery and is expected to gain complete control of his leg, because there is only a small amount of nerve damage.

“It is going to be a long road, with at least two more surgeries and a metal rod in my leg, but I should be okay in the end,” said Ludmer to www.youcaring.com.

The fundraising is expected to cover his medical costs with extra money to donate to the Brady Campaign.  The fundraising is scheduled to end in 2014 and the Ludmer family has set a goal to raise $100,000 by the end of the year.

“I think it is wonderful that so many students have come together to help their teacher,” said sophomore Delila Zaghi.  “Hopefully Mr. Ludmer will be back to school soon.”

Make a difference this holiday season and help Ludmer get back on his feet!
