One can easily say Herman Cain is a man of modern America. Having labored from the bottoms of pizza service to the highs of Chairman of the Federal Reserve Bank of Kansas City, Cain exemplifies the American Dream. With the national debt skyrocketing even further and the nationwide Occupy Wall Street protests growing larger, our nation is desperately looking for a leader who truly embodies the executive role as president. Unfortunately for all those who love a good suspension comeback story, Herman Cain is not that leader.
Cain undeniably has valuable financial experience. He has rescued several large-scale corporations from declaring bankruptcy and handled financial policies within the Federal Reserve Bank. Cain’s 9-9-9 Plan proposes the taming of America’s economic monster through the cooperation of opposing political parties and emphasizes the importance of economic restoration through increased productivity and decreased government spending.
Despite Cain’s multitude of economic qualifications, the role of president requires not only a strong plan for the economy but critical experience in handling foreign affairs and negotiating with Congress.
Cain’s lack of prior political experience in these areas has rendered him unable to be considered as a serious candidate, a position made evident in the viral video of a dumbfounded Cain struggling to discuss Libya. Ironically, the Republicans fiercely criticized President Barack Obama during his presidential campaign for his very same lack of experience, even though Obama had worked in government affairs far longer than Cain. Although a president’s decisions on militant, foreign and domestic affairs often lie in the body of his Cabinet, it is still the president who makes the final decision. The merits of a successful businessman simply cannot measure up to the grand-scale responsibilities of being president. The American people will only be seeing a 9-9-9 deal on one of Cain’s fast food menus.
Cain’s campaign has recently taken several public blows with multiple claims of sexual harassment in the workplace.
Cain’s flaw lies in how he has responded to these accusations. He provided the public with mixed answers, dismissed the accusations as “racially prejudiced,” and suspended his candidacy instead of fully addressing them. Ultimately, if Herman Cain truly looks to “service” the American people, he should probably stick to pizza. •
