Invisible Girlfriend

Invisible Girlfriend

Dear Chelsea,

Last week I started dating an amazing guy. Whenever we are alone he treats me like I am a princess…He is funny, smart, caring, and sweet. The only problem is that at school he is very reserved and rarely wants to kiss me. When I asked him about it he tells me that he is uncomfortable with too much PDA. Is he embarrassed to be going out with me or is he really just shy of being too showy? How can I get him to be more like a boyfriend to me in public?

-Invisible Girlfriend

Dear Invisible Girlfriend,

PDA is best in moderation. Let’s face it; no one wants to see two highschoolers sucking each other’s faces in the hallway. Sometimes those moments are best kept private and that’s not a bad thing if he wants to keep it that way too!  As long as your boyfriend gives you a couple of goodbye pecks and holds your hand in the hallway then it seems to me that that is enough. It seems like he is a great catch! Maybe he is still a little uncomfortable with being too touchy in public. Don’t try to force him to do something he isn’t comfortable with and appreciate the good times that you have together. Let each other ease into the relationship and enjoy each other’s company, maybe soon he will warm up to the idea of more PDA.

Now on the other hand, if your boyfriend is trying to hide you when in public, then that is a bigger problem. No girl wants to be the “secret girlfriend”, find out what the real root of the problems are. If he is ashamed or is trying to hide something from you then it doesn’t sound like a healthy relationship. If you both don’t feel comfortable with being an “official” couple then maybe the time for you two to start going out isn’t right. Don’t be the invisible girlfriend! If he continues to hide you from the public then do yourself a favor and find someone who is proud to call you their girlfriend!
