Just Saying…

Just Saying...

We all have our go-to movies – Mean Girls, Ferris Bueller’s Day Off or Spiderman.  However, though we may not want to admit it, Disney movies are the best of cinema.  Even if we watch them when no one else is home, you cannot deny that Disney is essential.  I still have every Disney movie on VHS and when I need a little inspiration, I put in an old-fashioned cassette and watch the classics.  These quintessential films teach many valuable life lessons; here are a few:

1.  “Always let your conscience be your guide” (The Blue Fairy, Pinocchio)  Have you ever changed an answer on a test but your initial choice was actually correct?  Later, we all realize we should have stuck with our gut feeling.  As Pinocchio discovered, all the answers are within you, you just need to be brave enough to follow your instincts.  Follow your moral compass, and you and your nose should be safe.

2.  “The past can hurt.  But the way I see it, you can either run from it, or learn from it” (Rafiki, The Lion King)  As seniors embark on a new journey in their lives, this quote could not be truer.  Though our past does not define us, it shapes who we are and allows us to mature and grow.  So do not be afraid to try new things and live a little more by the “Hakuna Matata” mentality.

3.  “Ohana means family, family means nobody gets left behind.  Or forgotten” (Lilo and Stitch)  Whether you live in Hawaii or in the Calif. Valley, family is the center of every home.  Whether brothers and sisters or friends surround you, family is comprised of those who know you best and love you most.  Wherever you venture in life, home is a place you can always return to feel safe and wanted!

4.  “All it takes is faith and trust and a little Pixie Dust” (Peter Pan)  Peter Pan has made it evident that anything is possible.   If you can look past societal norms, are not afraid to be yourself and dream big, you can achieve anything.  Find your dream; then its just “the second star to the right and straight on till morning.”

5.  “Giving up is for Rookies” (Phil, Hercules)  No matter how bumpy the road may be ahead, giving up should never be an option.  You do not need to be a Greek god to surpass obstacles that will arise in the future.  Just think, at least you are not going up against Hades.
