The album 21 by Adele is a shoo-in to win Album of the Year at the 2012 Grammy Awards. Each song makes one truly feel her pain and sorrow- from the tough, intense control portrayed in Set Fire to the Rain to emotional tearjerkers felt from Someone Like You, Adele conquers all. Her courage after facing the one that broke her heart, is truly represented with passion and anger from her beautiful voice, further creating anthems that forever reside in the hearts of her fans. According to VH1.com, 21 debuted at number one on both the UK Albums Chart and the US Billboard 200 Chart, taking on the number one chart position in a total of 19 countries across the world, a number high enough for a spot in the Guinness Book Of World Records. Adele has not only inspired millions of fans, but will indubitably leave musical experts breathless at the 2012 Grammy Awards. After separating from an anonymous love interest, her masterpiece was born- every song an expression of revenge, self-examination and forgiveness toward the one she once loved. The man who broke Adele’s heart must surely feel pain when her hit singles regularly play on local radio stations, because 21 is her most intense and best album yet.
When first listening to Bon Iver’s legendary song, Skinny Love, I was enchanted by his soothing voice humming in accordance to the tranquil rhythm. One can only imagine the pride I felt when I discovered that my musical hero was nominated for Best New Artist at the Grammy’s. Although other nominees for Best New Artist are marvelous, nothing compares to Bon Iver’s musical talents. Each song of his, and believe me I have listened to his songs countless times, are unique and truly beautiful in its own way. Beginning his solo career in 2007, Bon Iver was inspired by folk songwriter/singer, John Vernon, along with companions who further pursued Iver to follow his dreams. His infamous stage name, derived from the French word “Bon Hiver”, which translates to cold winter. I sincerely believe that his masterpiece Skinny Love was devoted a band member losing their true love. This emotional story is complemented with heart-felt lyrics, my world once more in a dream-like state. With deep admiration for my musical hero, each song truly makes me want to smile and cry at the same time. In all, for Bon Iver it is simply about the music- his musical career bereft the publicity, crazy outfits and price of fame. While watching the 2012 Grammy’s this year, my fingers will be crossed for my one and only.
