The Griffith Observatory in Hollywood offers just about everything under the stars, being a mecca for both scientific research and a serene escape from the bustling city that surrounds it. “The observatory is great for all types of visitors because it has something for everyone.” said a Griffith Park Observatory employee. “[Younger visitors] enjoy the shows we offer; I also think that being located in Hollywood encourages people to visit, because the views from here are spectacular ”

Established over 70 years ago, the observatory has been the premier spot in Southern California for space enthusiasts, as it offers top-notch telescopes available for star gazing and planet observation. With recent renovations, this landmark has had a recent influx of visitors. New events, attractions and activities have added to the advanced thinking that has come to define this monumental museum. The building offers an assortment of activities for its visitors, from breathtaking shows in the planetarium to unique scientific exhibits. Tickets to the planetarium’s shows have become a hot commodity, so popular they are often sold out. Viewers lucky enough to score tickets to the planetarium are able to enjoy an in-depth 360 degree tour of the solar system and its galaxies on gigantic floor-to-wall screens. Other attractions include the brand-new Robert and Suzanne Gottlieb Transit Corridor, a massive walkway that educates visitors about the movements of the sun, moon and stars, as well as illustrates their connections with one another.

“I did not know what to expect [at the star party] but I had a great time and it was an incredible experience,” said senior Niamh Grunfeld. “Even though I have never really been interested in astronomy and just went to spend time with friends, I really enjoyed the locale and collection of people.”
