Opportunities have knocked, and the Screamfest Horror Film Festival left horror enthusiasts with quite a scare. Screamfest is a chance for new and upcoming directors to showcase their independent horror films. This festival has launched many filmmakers’ careers, including Paranormal Activity, which was first premiered at the festival in 2007.
Screamfest first began when film producers Rachel Belofsky and Ross Martin had the idea of allowing filmmakers who specialized in the horror/sci-fi genre to expose their work to the public as well as significant people in the movie-making industry.
The festival was held at a new location this year, the prestigious Laemmle’s NoHo 7 in North Hollywood, and took place Oct. 8-17th. One new movie added to the selection, Schism, is about the life of a normal, average guy named Dylan White. However, White’s seemingly normal life is flipped upside down when horrifying visions begin to plague him. White sets out to find clues that lead him on a journey; he soon realizes that his life and soul are in danger. Directed by Adam Gierasch and performed by Callum Blue, Schism is a “trip to the dark side.”
Screamfeast was a great event for horror-film buffs alike. This festival gave attendees a chance to get a first look at movies that left them with chills. The Screamfest was definitely something to scream about!
