A Nightmare on Elm Street

One, two, Freddy’s coming for you!  If you are tired of cheesy horror films, get together with all of your friends this Halloween to take a stroll down A Nightmare On Elm Street.  This classic film will bring you to another level of terror.

Springwood Slasher, a psychopath better known as Freddy Krueger, murders several children with his razor-sharp claws.  When a judge makes a ludicrous decision to release Krueger from the court’s custody, he is burned alive in a boiler room by the parents of the deceased children.  Years later, the children whose parents  were accountable for Krueger’s death are tormented by a mysterious, clawed figure in their dreams.  One by one these victims are brutally murdered in their dreams by Krueger.  Consequently, their dreams become a reality– they begin to die in real life.  Once the survivors find out the horrible truth behind Freddy’s rampage, they decide to bring the alleged dream murderer out of dream world in order to put an end to his evil ways.

This Halloween be sure to eat your candy to stay awake for this film.  Beware of someone lurking in the shadows of your dreams tonight.  Sweet dreams, and sleep tight.

Nosferatu

For all of you silent film aficionados, prepare for tonight to be a wordless but nonetheless haunting experience.  Head over to Santa Monica’s Aero Theater to view one of the eeriest horror films ever created–Nosferatu.

At the start of this flick, an estate agent in Bremen, Germany sends his employee Hutter to visit Count Orlok.  Orlok is a client and vampire looking to acquire a deserted town estate for no apparent reason.  Although Hutter is hesitant to meet with Orlok at first, he realizes he has no other choice but to oblige with his employer and pay his client a visit.  Hutter disregards the warnings he receives from people about the man and does not question the morality of Orlok until he witnesses the Count’s perverted reaction to blood.  Scared for his life, Hutter rushes home only to discover that the Count  followed him on his journey and developed an interest in Hutter’s wife Ellen.  To release herself from the vampire’s powers, Ellen utilizes Orlok’s inability to control his lust as she leads him to his downfall.

This truly frightful film made in 1922 utilizes exquisite shadows and dark figures.  Tonight, this viewing is the new and improved version with the addition of live musical accompaniment by Cliff Retallic.  Do something different this Halloween and take some time to engage in the mysteries of these bloodsuckers.  No one has ever found silence to be so frightful.

Hocus Pocus

Not in the mood for gore, blood or horror this Halloween?   Get in touch with your inner child and curl up on the couch with your hard-earned trick-or-treat goodies for the return of Hocus Pocus.  This Disney movie will surely make you cackle and send the occasional chill up your spine.

Hocus Pocus involves three wicked sisters who were hanged in Salem centuries ago for practicing witchcraft.  Before their deaths, they vowed to return to Salem in 300 years on Halloween to seek vengeance.  Now flashing forward to present day, the new kid on the block, Max, takes his younger sister Dani trick-or-treating and decides to explore the ruins of the infamous home of the witches.  As he investigates the abandoned house, he begins to provoke the sisters to resurrect themselves from the dead.  The three ladies magically appear, and, as promised, begin to inflict their reign of terror upon the town of Salem.  The kids take off with the sorceresses’ spell book which is filled with curses and recipes for evil.  The witches, who will perish by the morning light if they do not cast the voodoo for immortality, must retrieve the book at all costs.

While you are stirring some goblin and gargoyle earwax complemented by the eye of a newt into your cauldron, be sure to turn on Hocus Pocus and -POOF- be ready for some wicked fun!

Rocky Horror Picture Show

A musically and seductively engaging night filled with transvestites, murderers, doctors and creations beyond anything you can imagine is exactly what you will find in the scenes of The Rocky Horror Picture Show.

Taking place in Transylvania during the Timewarp, a recently engaged man, Brad Majors, and his fiancé Janet Weiss find themselves trapped inside the world of Doctor Frank N. Furter.  On their way to visit a friend, Brad and Janet come across a welcoming group of residents in a large castle.  The party of people in the estate is hosted by Doctor Frank N. Furter.  In the castle, Brad and Janet undergo many wacky experiences such as witnessing a doctor kill a paper-boy and unknowingly eat a fellow human being.  As the couple attempts to escape, they are further shocked by Dr. Furter’s creation and by the sights of the murders that this so-called doctor commits.  Brad and Janet are blown away when they discover that the residents of the castle are aliens.

This Halloween check out the midnight showing of The Rocky Horror Picture Show at the Nuart Theater in West Los Angeles.  This show will not only guarantee you a memorable night but will also leave you looking over your shoulder in fear of seeing an extraterrestrial creature.
