Senior Georgia Greene’s unique application process

High school is one of the most rewarding times in a teen’s life; however, there is a limited amount of time to enjoy high school until graduation comes around in June. As most students spend the weekend hanging out with friends or relaxing on the couch, the ambitious seniors of CHS continue to apply to numerous colleges to potentially attend in the fall. With the wide variety of student interests at CHS also comes diversity in the types of colleges to which students apply. While most choose a traditional, academic route, senior Georgia Greene has chosen a more liberal path.

For Greene, her time here at CHS has been filled with various roles in school plays and musicals, where she grew as a performer and as an artist. Since Greene is applying to more liberal studies, her application process is different than a standard application. Along with a completed application, she must also audition to be accepted into a school. This means that Greene must perform for colleges in order to exemplify her talent as well as submit various writing supplements.

“I had to write personal statements regarding my craft and what inspires my art,” said Greene.

Whether a college is liberal or academic, each college has different application requirements. Greene has applied to a multitude of colleges, some of which are Belmont University, University of Southern California and the CalArts Institute of Contemporary Music Performance. Since Greene is planning on majoring in songwriting, she has performed numerous pre-screenings for her applications. Although some might find live performances to be nerve-racking, Greene takes this as an opportunity to determine if a school suits her.

“The live audition gives you a better idea of what that school has to offer and if it is even the right fit for you,” said Greene. “You just have to go with the attitude of knowing you have nothing to lose.”

Despite a traditional college education, Greene is determined to discover herself both musically and academically through a liberal arts experience.
