New plant manager promotes campus restoration

A new trash free trail was put in at CHS.
A new trash free trail was put in at CHS.

Last month, the CHS administration hired Bob Hodgson as the new plant manager for the school. He was put in charge of the custodial staff and hired to enhance the quality of the school through various projects.

Over the past month, Hodgson has already instituted a number of significant changes. On the trail leading to the junior parking lot, he led the effort to clean all of the trash and weeds from the area. His team also repainted the red off limit lines around campus in order to help enforce their boundaries. These areas are off limits to students during nutrition and lunch and are meant to make it easier for the custodial staff to regulate the trash around campus. Additionally, under his leadership, all of the lunch tables have been steam cleaned and cleared of any sticky residue. He is now working with the Saturday work program students to ensure that all of the sites stay clean.

Now that the projects screen-shot-2012-02-29-at-9-40-43-pmstated above are complete, the administration and Hodgson are working together to create long-term goals for campus restoration. The first priority is planting in a variety of barren areas around campus, especially the front of the school, with colorful, drought friendly flowers. The next plan of action is to repaint all of the lockers on campus and the walls inside the H-building during summer break. Ultimately, Hodgson hopes that the whole school will be sanded down and repainted.

The Parent Faculty Club, the Las Virgenes Unified School District and CHS provide the money for all of the renovations.

Q: What were you hired tdo as the as the new plant manager?

I was hired to clean up the campus and return it to what it used to be when it first opened. The projects will give the school a better image and contribute to a friendlier school environment. I have already received a number of compliments from students about the trail and lunch tables.
Q: How do you plan to enforce the changes you have made to the school?

A clean campus has always been important, but now it has become a priority of the school. I have reassigned the custodial staff to direct their attention to specific tasks. I also want to get the students more actively involved in contributing to a well-kept campus
