On April 13, the CHS club, Cinderella Project, went to A Place Called Home in South Central Los Angeles to help girls and boys prepare for their proms and graduations. From 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., members of the club picked out dresses, shoes, accessories and more for these underprivileged students.
“Going down to south central was an amazing experience,” said club president senior Chandler Grenley. “To see the looks on theirfaces and hear that they felt pretty made me proud to help contribute to that feeling.”
In addition to the clothes they got, the teenagers received lessons on hair and makeup, skin care, how to conduct themselves at interviews and more. The boys and girls were all very grateful for the help.
“It was a really eye-opening experience. I couldn’t imagine being 7½ months pregnant at 17 years old and being proud of it,” said Grenley.
APCH is a non-profit organization that provides educational programs, counseling, mentoring, music, dance and art classes for students. To find out more about APCH or how to volunteer, go to http://www.apch.org/volunteer.
Next year, sophomore Emma Gabay and freshman Kelsey Feinberg will be the presidents of the club. They will continue to volunteer at events and hold donation drives for APCH.
