CHS spring sports previews

Sswimwimming

Both the girls and boys varsity swim teams have been training intensely for the past six months and are prepared to dive into the upcoming spring season.  The swimmers have spent hours practicing their strokes and perfecting their technique.  This year, the combined talent of fast underclassmen and experienced returning upper class will provide the team with an advantage.  With the help of three dedicated swim coaches, both teams have the potential to make CIF playoffs and start the swim season off successfully.

Throughout CHS history, boys varsity tennis has consecutively dominated the Marmonte League.  Last season, the team maintained its undefeated ranking and progressed to the CIF playoffs.  Through its hard work and dedication, the team hopes to become an even stronger force in the upcoming season. The varsity team strives to be the first CHS tennis team to win the CIF championship since 1994.  The team’s chemistry as well as its commitment to after school practices will push boys tennis to the next level.

trackTrack and Field

As the track and field season approaches, the need for a year-round sprint coach has emerged.  Coach Matthew Hatchette, who ran track in college to train for the National Football League, was chosen.  Hatchette intends to merge all levels of boys football with the co-ed track team to create a single team.  Moreover, several football players joined track in an effort to improve their speed and challenge the runners. The combined skill of the runners and football players will provide CHS track with a competitive edge for the spring season.

The eight seniors on varsity girls softball have been preparing for this season for four long years.  Their experience has produced a team with unparalleled communication skills and cohesiveness, which contributes to their chemistry on the field. This year the players were even able to skip bonding exercises in the pre-season and focus instead on perfecting offensive techniques.  The extra training combined with the girls’ unique history as a team will undoubtedly give them an advantage in the 2012 season.
