Though the second semester of the year usually sparks severe cases of senioritis, the seniors on varsity volleyball view the time as a season for hard work, determination and victory. Beginning the 2013 season with a win against Channel Islands on Feb. 26, the boys are focused on achieving a position in the league playoffs for the first time in boys volleyball history.
In order to maximize practice time and improve the general skill of the team, head coach Cory Chandler hired two new assistant coaches, Bronson Oliviera and Jon Dazé.
“I feel that the extra coaching will be a huge boost to our success and confidence,” said Chandler. “However, the team will only be as successful as it truly wants to be.”
The boys have continuously worked to improve their talent since the end of last season and have also bonded on and off the court.
Due to these recent strides to enhance physical technique and mental preparation, the players and coaches are confident that they will exceed their achievements of past seasons and reach their goals.
“We have all the pieces in place to reach the playoffs. As long as we do not take any win for granted, both our skills on the court and our league standing will undoubtedly progress.”
– said varsity captain senior Logan Grenley
“In previous years, we did not have a lot of confidence, but I think that there will be many changes this year. The confidence level is very high, and our leadership is incredible.”
