1. How has the cheer team prepared for their upcoming competition?
Rachel Kay: They begin by learning a competition routine in November. Then, they compete in various competitions beginning in January. The team competes in two different USA competitions and depending on their score, they will receive a bid to go to Nationals. After the team receives the bid, we re-work the routine to spice it up a bit and add more difficulty to it.
2. How confident do you feel that the team will do well at Nationals?
Abigail Jacobs: Everyone on our team gets along on both a personal and professional level. I think if we continue to practice and perform the way we have been, we can achieve our goal of hitting a clean routine at nationals and advancing to the second round of judging.
3. What is the best advice that you get from your coach?
Shaylin Lucas: The thing that my coach always says is what will set you apart is your sharpness and the way that you perform it. Everyone there can hit a routine but is it clean and sharp? That’s what we strive to do every time we step on the mats and perform. You have to sell it.
4. What sets the CHS cheer team apart from other teams?
Emilee Sturm: We will stop at nothing to perfect this routine and perform to our best abilities. Our team’s motivation, devotion to the team and love for each other set us apart.
