On March 28 to April 1, the CHS music program traveled to Washington D.C. to compete in the Heritage Festival. This was the first out of state program the CHS music program has competed in.
The Wind Ensemble won the Gold 2nd award, Orchestra won the Gold award, Vivace won Gold 2nd and Maestoso won the Gold award. The CHS music program also won the Instrumental Sweepstakes Award, which is awarded to a school that brings two or more groups to the festival. Wind Ensemble, Orchestra and Vivace won the Adjudicators’ Award which is the judges’ number one choice for top ensemble, and the Orchestra won the Outstanding Orchestra trophy above all competing orchestras.
“The students put a lot of time and effort into improving themselves,” said music teacher Aaron Kohen. “There is a lot of positive energy flowing in the groups which always results in great performances.”
In addition to the group awards, Daniel Moltke violin solo and Dillion Greene won “Outstanding Soloist” for their violin and bassoon performances.
The CHS Music program is looking forward to continuing their success in upcoming competitions and in the opening of the new theater in 2013.
