The crowd jolts with each precise movement as community member Wyatt Starkman executes dance moves with ease. The hip-hop dancer captivates the audience with every step he takes.
Although Starkman has danced his whole life, his professional dancing career began when he was 12. Starkman assisted his mother at her dance studio I Can Do That and eventually mastered the moves himself. Since working with his mom, he has taken many hip-hop classes at studios such as The Rage and Millennium Dance Complex.
“The way I feel when I am on stage is something that I will never forget,” said Starkman. “When I am on stage, I get a feeling of excitement and joy because I am entertaining the people in front of me.”
Starkman’s favorite style of dance is hip-hop because of the complexity that each move requires and the precision in which each step must be executed. Over the years Starkman has been able to develop his own style. He has danced at various events including school tours, charity events and anti-bullying assemblies. Specifically, he has danced at Power 106 and Variety Power of Youth Benefit.
As well as being a dancer, Starkman also pursues acting. He has played the roles of characters such as Randy on the Disney Channel show Shake It Up and was featured twice on So You Think You Can Dance with the Rage Boyz Crew. Having filmed a few commercials for campaigns for Fruity Pebbles, Got Milk?, Wii and Xbox, Starkman has already developed a career in the entertainment industry. For the past year, he has worked on a project known as Day2Night, a YouTube series that combines both acting and dancing into one show.
“Along with all the fun and exposure Day2Night brings, I got an amazing lesson and advantage in the professional world of filmmaking and production,” said Starkman. “It was the best experience I have ever had professionally because I was working behind the scenes and in the show as well.”
This summer Starkman will teach classes and perform at venues in different cities all around the country. His dedication encourages many other aspiring dancers, actors and musicians to pursue their careers with passion; his charm, compassion and talent will continue to impress his fans.
“My life is always surrounded by dancing, singing and acting, and I love it,” said Starkman. “I get to live a life that not many people do, and I am thankful for that.”
