When students attend this Saturday’s Homecoming Dance, they should expect to be transported to the golden days of Hollywood.
After considering themes such as “Enchanted Garden” and “Masquerade,” ASB selected “Old Hollywood” for this year’s dance because it allowed ASB to indulge their sense of play.
“It’s a fun theme where you can do a red carpet, be dramatic with lighting,” said ASB advisor Kelly Ortiz. “In terms of the dance and decorations, it’s more fun to decorate with the theme.”
Upon entrance, attendees will walk through a red carpet featuring bright lights shining to emulate the experience of Hollywood stars. The dance, which will take place on the upper quad, will feature music provided by a DJ. Throughout the quad, large Oscar-statue replicas will be placed on different sides, as well as black, gold, and red decorations to set the “Old Hollywood” vibe.
“Expect red, gold, black, an Old Hollywood theme all over,” said commissioner of campus entertainment Auden Gordon.
An aspect of the dance which has ASB representatives especially excited is the food: taco and Italian Ice trucks.
“It’s new food that we’ve never had before,” said co-commissioner Morgan Sax.
ASB acknowledges the ambiguity that the theme provides and are enthusiastic to see how people approach it and dress for Homecoming.
“Hollywood is how you can feel the best you can feel,” said Gordon. “If you find something you feel confident in, wear it. It really gives room for creativity.”
Students attending the dance are also excited for the theme and the freedom in choice of attire that it provides.
“I think it’s a very good theme. I think everyone’s going to be dressed up very nicely and people are actually going to try [to match] the theme,” said junior Chloe Parker. “I know a lot of people who actually want to do it.”
ASB expects a large turnout, as 701 tickets were sold for the event. The commissioners of campus entertainment are excited to share their hard work with students looking for a good time.
“I’m really excited because it’s going to be a great turnout. The more, the merrier,” said Sax. “There’s going to be more people to enjoy the hard work that we put into it.”
