At CHS Theater’s ‘Welcome Back Picnic,’ a highly anticipated event for the program, theater director Bill Garrett announced Sandy Rustin’s “Clue” and Greg Kotis’s “Urinetown” would be the fall play and spring musical for the 2024-2025 school year.
“Clue” is a murder mystery comedy set at a dinner party where the host turns up dead, and the six guests must scramble to find the killer before they, too, become the target of a murder.
“I chose Clue because I’ve always wanted to do a murder mystery for our main stage show,” said Garrett. “Clue has such fun characters, really witty dialogue, and the combination of both the murder mystery and a farce sets up a fun opportunity for our students.”
Garrett’s decision to make the spring musical “Urinetown,” a satirical comedy in which all toilets are privately owned and cost money to use, was met with excitement and enthusiasm by students due to its timing. Jesse Brasler, a senior in the theater program, especially reciprocated this sentiment.
“A lot of people advertise it as just like a wacky sort of musical comedy, which it is, but [Garrett] choosing to do it in a year where there’s an election and politics are what they are right now was just the perfect time to do it,” said Brasler. “The political side of Urinetown will shine right through.”
Both Brasler and Joshua Kleinman, senior theater student, highly encourage people to come out and see the shows. They anticipate that this next year will be a great one for the theater program.
“There’s going to be really cool props and sets. A lot of people are going to work really hard, and I know the shows are going to come together amazingly,” said Kleinman.
Auditions for the fall play will be held on Tuesday, September 3rd, and Wednesday, September 4th.
