On September 19th, Calabasas High School’s very own Michael Yeung was recognized as the LVUSD Certificated Employee of the Month. Yeung, who teaches math and robotics, says the award was unexpected.
“I like to work in the shadows,” said Yeung. “It was a big surprise to me to win this award, and I appreciate it and I’m grateful for it.”
Yeung has been working and teaching in the math and robotics sectors for a decade, but due to the award, he says that he’s as excited as ever.
“I’m more pumped to do things, to make things better, to improve upon everything that I’m working upon,” said Yeung.
It’s always a hard decision when selecting an employee to highlight in a district as big as LVUSD, but Principal Wutkee says Yeung more than deserved it.
“When you look at everything Mr. Yeung does, he’s everywhere,” said Wutkee. “And not only is he so involved, he’s just so upbeat and positive and so student centered. I think every kid here can tell you a great story about Mr. Yeung.”
Senior Ben Kaufman, a co-captain of the robotics team, has experienced Yeung’s student-centered approach firsthand.
“I think he’s a great teacher and a great mentor throughout the class and the team,” said Kaufman. “He’s really helped me get better and improve.”
Overall, the decision to spotlight Yeung shows not just Yeung’s proficiency but Calabasas’s ability to create a welcoming environment for learning.
“It’s a great reflection, not only on what he’s done but on the Calabasas staff in general,” said Wutkee. “Anytime somebody on campus can be recognized for something great, it’s just a chance for all of us to reflect on what’s so great about our school and to just celebrate the people that really make Calabasas High School a great place to come for your educational experience.”
