Seniors take on water assassins

Seniors take on water assassins

This week students might notice seniors on edge. The reason being a non-affiliated CHS game, Water Assassins has begun.

Water assassins is a water gun game typically played in schools, during senior year. The game involves water guns to “kill” or get out others in the game, and it usually lasts around a month. It can be played in small or large groups of people.

The objective of the game is to eliminate the target that your group gets assigned at the beginning of the game. However, nobody knows who is targeting whom. When a person is tagged with the water gun, they are out of the game, and usually, their target is given to the group who got them out. The rules vary depending on the seniors playing, but there are safe zones and specific places where the participants can not be eliminated. The last player remaining wins a prize, which is cash.

The Seniors playing this year paid $35 to be eligible to play. They get into teams of 5, and there has to be a team captain. Every week a team gets assigned a target, at random. On week 4 there won’t be any more targets and every team tries to get out each other. If you survive through week 2, you get 1 point, week 3, 2 points, and week 4, 3 points. In week 5 the team with the most points wins. The cycles last from Monday at 12:00am till Friday at 5:00 pm, but there can be dead periods. Team captains have to report each kill they get, to the Instagram page with a picture and video evidence. Each kill is worth 1 point, so if a person on your team dies it’s -1 point. Driveways and home property are off-limits, however sidewalks and streets are allowed. School property, school events, CHS sports, and restaurants are a few of the safe zones.

Senior Water Assassins have been going on since the 1980s. Last year’s winners were team Aquamen, and the participants were Liron Azura, Liron Meoded, Kiano Karimi, Ethan Cohen, and Finn Froley. They each won $1,415 each. Second place won $190 and third place won $95.

For Senior Water Assassin the prize is around $1,000 per winner and there are about 265 participants this year. No one knows who is running the game, however, there is an Instagram account that runs it and provides information about the game.

On team SpongeBob SquirtPants, Senior Scarlett Weiner looks forward to playing the game this year.

“I’m excited, it’s a little stressful, but we don’t care because it will be fun,” said Weiner.

Senior Maral Jarahzade, also in team SpongeBob SquirtPants, is excited but nervous.

“It’s stressful, but I’m excited and it should be fun”, said Zadeh.

Senior, Michael Knox, has developed some strategies for the game.

“We want to stay lowkey, silent, and sneaky. Just try to get our targets out” said Knox.

Seniors look forward to playing this game throughout high school. It is a fun activity to end Senior year with and something students can look forward to.
