The Coyote Tutor Center at Calabasas High School is a dedicated study center for peer-on-peer tutoring. Run by English Teacher Kristen. Lapiner during lunch and 7th period in room H201 is available to all students and has been available since early October of this year.

“We have such a great resource in all of our Peers who are here to help. We have every subject area that you can imagine,” said Lapiner. 

Students are able to show up to the Coyote Tutor Center without booking an appointment to receive peer tutoring. However, some tutors have scheduled tutoring sessions. These tutors receive volunteer hours. A majority of the tutors come from NHS (National Honors Society).

“Everyone’s invited, and I really encourage them to kind of check it out. If they don’t want to come by themselves, bring a friend. It’s always good to have a study buddy.” said Lapiner.

This peer-on-peer tutoring started because some students find it easier to understand concepts when explained from a fellow student’s perspective. More often than not, students struggle to grasp their teacher’s explanation of a subject. Additionally, older tutors can provide valuable insights based on their past experiences with certain teachers.

“I like to tutor because I am available to help kids who need support in their academics and I can spread my knowledge to my peers,” said junior Siya Porwal, Coyote Tutor Center Tutor.

This tutoring program helps students all across campus improve their grades and turn in their homework on time. With dedicated tutors and a positive working environment, students are provided the opportunity to build good study habits, meet proper deadlines, and reach their academic goals.

“I like this class because it makes me feel comfortable and helps me focus on my work,” said Curlinda Xu.
