Thrift, matcha, and music night

Thrift, matcha, and music night

On Tuesday from 5 to 7 pm, the Tri-M Music Honor Society collaborated with the theater program for a night of live performances, matcha, and thrifting on the lower quad. Several musical groups affiliated with Calabasas performed, along with smaller groups of students from various music programs. The matcha stand was student-run, and all thrifting items had been donated throughout the weeks prior to the event.

Bare Rhythm, Unstramental, several jazz combos, and various spontaneous groups performed at the open mic. It was a laid-back format, with optional seating in front of the stage to watch the performances, but people mostly chose to walk around, thrift, drink matcha, and socialize with the music in the background for a nice ambiance.

“The performance was more of a relaxing experience than the pressure of performing on the stage. It allows a chance for performers to connect with the audience as they perform their piece,” said Grace Faulk, one of the students who performed at the open mic section of the night.

Over at the matcha stand, several students were making drinks for all of the attendees. Drinks were $4, and the options were an iced matcha latte or an iced chai latte, with multiple flavor choices, like strawberry and early grey.

“I bought a matcha and it was really good, I was so impressed,” said Ava Paridari, a student at CHS who attended the event.

There were three tables, almost filled to the brim, at the start of the night with donations from CHS students, and they attracted a lot of attention due to the variety of choices.

“A lot of people bought the clothes, which was really good. It was an amazing turnout, and I think overall the vibe and attitude was so supportive,” said Ashley Silverman, the historian of the Tri-M MHS.

This was the last big gathering of the year hosted by Tri-M, but they are looking for a hospital to perform at for their next event, which will most likely be at the start of next school year.
