Dumb Starbucks operated on the sole purpose of questioning why people pay so much for mediocre coffee drinks with a label on it. Located in Los Feliz, Dumb Starbucks had a short stint as a parody of Starbucks itself. All of the Starbucks drinks were on the menu, only with the word “dumb” added as a prefix to the drink names. The shop gave out hundreds of cups of free Dumb Coffee to customers. Due to the store calling itself parody art, Dumb Starbucks claims the name could be affiliated with the shop legally. Dumb Starbucks is protected under law because it claims to be an art gallery. Although most had hoped for the store’s success, a few days after opening the pseudo-coffee shop, the Department of Public Health shut it down due to a lack of permits. Comedy Central’s Nathan Fielder claimed to be behind the mock-shop in a public announcement. Although the entire Internet is laughing, Starbucks and the Department of Public Health are not.
