On May 18 the American Cancer Society will bring together community members at its annual Relay for Life event. At this event many families in the Calabasas community will gather in order to acknowledge those who have fought or are currently battling cancer.

The event begins at 9 a.m. and ends the following morning at 9 a.m. At 9 a.m. the Opening Ceremony will take place and will feature inspiring success and accomplishment stories about those who have battled with cancer. The Morning Survivor Lap will begin at 9:30 a.m., in which upbeat music will play and others will stand along the track sides to encourage survivors to take pride in their major accomplishment. Following the Survivor Lap, the Luminaria Ceremony will start at 9 p.m. and will serve as a time to remember those we have lost to cancer. Next is the Fight-Back at 8:30 a.m., where a candle-lit ceremony will be held to symbolize the emotional commitment survivors have to fighting cancer. At 9:00 a.m the following morning is the Closing Ceremony which will consist of remembering those we have lost and encouraging survivors to keep fighting in the upcoming years. In addition, participants are encouraged to walk laps and go booth to booth around the track, where they will be able to make small donations and play several booth games.

“Relay for Life is a great event that everyone should attend and participate in,” said Relay for Life co-chair for Survivorship Member, Wendy Tipp. “Everyone gathers together for a great cause to remember those who fought and are still fighting Cancer. Together we can find a cure.”

Relay for Life is an inspiring and amazing event that everyone should participate in to help make the goal of finding a cure for cancer a reality.
