Starting Aug. 29, the CHS Associated Student Body will be sending text message notifications to students.  These notifications will be sent only to those students who specifically sign up for these services.  Before any major event, game or meeting, a member of ASB will be sending a mass text message allowing students to learn school news and events easily.  There will be text groups for all four grade levels as well as news about Service Learning Opportunities, sporting events and Performing Arts Education Center events.

ASB Tech Commissioner Sam Vizvary came up with the idea of text message notifications for CHS one day when he received a notification on his phone for ESPN.

“I got a text from ESPN reminding me to vote for a sporting award,” said Vizvary, “I thought to myself, ‘what if CHS had this same text messaging service to remind students about up and coming events?’  So I did some research and I presented my ideas to ASB, and they loved it!”

This new system of notification will be conducted throughout the entire school year.  Vizvary wants to keep the texts to helpful amount rather than a large amount of unnecessary texts throughout the year. ASB members distributed a paper before registration and check in for any students who wanted to join thetext service.  Students filled out their name, phone number and preferred form of notifications, including class notifications and certain events.  To sign up for any text messaging service through ASB, fill out a form found in X-201 or talk to any ASB members.  Forms will be available all year.

Since this is the first time a mass text message system will be used at CHS, teachers and principals are nervous as to how the program will turn out.  The ASB class, however, has high hopes for the future of this new communication tactic.  They believe the new ASB text system will be successful and continue for many years.
