In a society where life revolves around technology, people experience delays and inconveniences every day. However, innovation and efficiency of many technological products are just around the corner,as dominant companies such as Google and Apple are beginning to develop technology that is incorporated into apparel. These products include web-connected eyeglasses, jackets with built-in heaters, improved athletic products and watches that sync with smartphones. The creation of these devices is a large step toward a new world. Also, once retailers are able to sell these products at affordable prices, countries that have these gadgets will experience large economic booms. Finally, wearable technology will promote efficiency in the business, educational and social worlds.
Movies such as 2001: A Space Odyssey, directed by Stanley Kubrick, and Back to the Future, directed by Robert Zemeckis, depict futuristic societies in which humans live lifestyles that depend on the newest technological advances. However, currently in 2013 people are still driving cars that run on combustion engines. Inventions such as the Google Glass will allow people to fulfill their futuristic fantasies. Google Glass is a pair of glasses that connects to the Internet and allows users to take photos, as well as view weather reports and navigation. The types of photographs and videos that can be taken through Google Glass are incomparable to those of a regular camera; they will be exactly what the individual sees when he or she takes the photo or video. Martian Watches company has also created a smartwatch that can be connected to Siri or other smartphone voice-recognition services via Bluetooth. Users of the smartwatch can make and receive calls, respond to text messages and perform other phone-related services.
“Families and friends will not have to worry about taking out a camera or phone to take pictures, they can just use [Google Glass],” said junior Kavya Samudrala.
Products such as the Nike+ FuelBand have also revolutionized fitness. Wearers of the FuelBand can set daily goals for their fitness activities, and the numbers of calories they burn are displayed on a Light- Emitting Diode display. Google has also partnered with Oakley sunglasses company to assist snowboarders through a GPS navigation system that can track their distances, jump heights and air times.
These advancements will also promote efficiency in both the educational and professional realms. The ability of the next generation to research and create products will be infinite. Furthermore, teachers will have more resources to create new and interesting learning environments.
“With the use of wearable technology, lectures in class and research products will be much more efficient,” said Samudrala.
Once these products are on the market, the economy will experience a tremendous increase in sales.
Many fashion and technology companies will make millions in profits, as sales will dramatically increase.
The idea of incorporating wearable technology into everyday life will set the stage for the creation
of a world that people like Kubrick and Zemeckis believed would exist.
