With the current generation’s social media presence, new trends and ideas are shared quickly, and inspiration from peers is common. When scrolling through TikTok, it becomes apparent that many schools have the common tradition of seniors starting their last year of high school by painting and personalizing their own parking spots. This is a tradition that CHS should adopt.
Seniors already pay enough money for their assigned spots in the senior lot so they should be allowed to participate in this fun activity. Every student with a spot in the senior lot already has a fixed parking spot that they park in every day. So the same way students like to decorate their rooms, cars, lockers, etc., they should be able to customize their parking spots. This will show the individuality of every student in the senior class and give students an outlet in which they can express themselves.
After each student buys their parking spot, CHS should host an event where each senior designs their space to reflect their personality, school spirit and excitement to join the rest of their senior class for one more year of school before graduation.
Students would be required to bring their own paint, paintbrushes and materials so that it would not cost the school any money. Then, the next year’s seniors would paint over that artwork to continue the senior tradition. It would be a free, exciting event that allows Seniors to express their individuality and excitement for finally having their own parking spot in their senior year.
This event could also showcase the skills of some of CHS’ most artistic students, and help beautify our senior lot.
“I love the idea,” said CHS junior and AP Art student Olivia Corman. “It would be a really fun project where I could apply everything I learned from my AP Art class.”
Seeing the artwork displayed around the senior lot would also be a great way to gain school spirit from our underclassmen looking forward to their senior year and encourage them to take our school’s art classes.
“[Painting parking spots] would be such a fun tradition that our grade would love,” agreed CHS junior and AP Art student Kayden Ruby. “It makes me excited for my senior year.”
It is clear that the ability to customize and paint senior parking spots would be a fun opportunity for the senior class, and something that should be added to the other senior traditions.
