James is currently the lead candidate for the Most Valuable Player award for this season. Additionally, shooting guard all-star Dwyane Wade, who has played a lead role in each of the Heat’s championships, and power forward Chris Bosh, who has provided a necessary inside presence on both the offensive and defensive ends, are having spectacular seasons. Miami has broken records with its 25 game winning streak, putting the team in the top three of highest number of wins in a row ever. Going into the playoffs on such a high note will ensure that Miami will reach the finals once again.
The Oklahoma City Thunder
Contrary to the Heat, all of the Oklahoma City Thunder’s best players were acquired naturally through the draft or trade. This major luck of the draw has made them a top team for the last few seasons, though they have yet to win a national title. Star offensive small forward Kevin Durrant has a great shot at the MVP award because he has grown much as a player this season, averaging over 27 points a game and making a career high average in rebounds, assists and steals per game. Point guard Russell Westbrook’s outstanding performance this season has additionally contributed to the team’s success while Serge Ibaka has stepped up this season to show his improved offense and defense in the key. Kevin Martin, another crucial player of the Thunder, has also exceeded all expectations for this season. This year, many experts give Oklahoma City a good shot at beating Miami in the championship series, despite last year’s finals loss.
