Senior Jake Klein has proven to be a star tennis player over the last four years. Klein immediately fell in love with tennis despite the fact that he played several other sports. He started playing the sport at the young age of 9 and has stuck with it ever since. As a mere sophomore, Klein went undefeated in season, winning 27 matches in the Marmonte league singles and capturing the prestigious Boys’ Tennis Player of the Year award. Additionally, he won a share of the Marmonte League most valuable player honors. He has always put in a lot of work and has never taken a point for granted.
“I have worked on getting a lot more consistent and making less mistakes, and it has really helped, especially in high school, when you can only play one set,” said Klein. “You can’t start off making a lot of errors. Being more consistent has allowed me to get a lot more wins and easier wins, which is nice.”
After his spectacular performance during his sophomore year, Klein hit a few roadblocks on his way to greatness. He struggled throughout his junior year with a wrist injury, but he has returned better than ever for his final season of high school tennis. Nevertheless, Klein has received exposure to many college coaches and is hoping to continue his success in college.
“I have always wanted to collegiate tennis, and I have always believed that I can,” said Klein. “It has only been a question of where I will play and how well will I perform during my time there.”
Klein has committed to play tennis for Washington University, St. Louis. Playing tennis in college has been his dream, and he is hoping to make the most of this incredible opportunity. Despite receiving several other very attractive offers, Washington University became the clear frontrunner for Klein. In both academics and athletics, Klein will do his best to succeed both on and off the court. Will power and potential have always guided Klein to play to the best of his abilities, and hopefully it will continue to drive him as far as possible.
