Girls’ tennis makes playoffs
CHS girls’ tennis placed number one in the Marmonte League this season with a record of 3-0 in league and 3-4 overall, making it to the first round of CIF playoffs.
Although the team lost its first round playoff match, players and coaches are proud of their season.
“We made it into playoffs, which is always our number one objective,” said head coach Criss Rodriguez. “We didn’t do as well as we thought we would, but it was a pretty good season.”
Heading into the season, Rodriguez felt the team was strong and had a lot of talent. She believes one thing the girls can strive to improve is their lines.
“Looking back now I can see [that] we need to work on singles and doubles lines,” said Rodriguez. “[That] really was the turning point.”
Freshman Gianna Mucci was number one on the varsity team. Mucci said she believes the team played well throughout the season but went against a tough team in the first round of playoffs and hopes, with more experience, the team will perform better next year.
“We are a really solid team when we are together,” said Mucci. “I think we need to work on match play a little bit more and get more experience.”
Next year, Rodriguez said she plans to focus specifically on making doubles players more aggressive and hopes for an even stronger season.
