Calabasas High School’s Track and Field program is no stranger to CIF glory. Before last year’s CIF finals, both relay teams were ranked among the top 15 teams in the United States. With expectations riding high, they delivered.
Just last year, the girls took second place in the 4×400 meter relay, became CIF Champions in the 4×100 meter relay, and were CIF Team Champions for Division 2.
Calabasas consistently assembles talent. Last year, they sent a trio of seniors to compete collegiately—twins Lahela and Zoe Ray, who currently attend Washington State University, and Paige Porter, who runs at Berkeley. This year, the team features stand-out athletes such as Kingston Celifie, Olivia Kirk, Molly Scoggins, and Malia Rainey.
“We won CIF twice over the last three years. So we [are] always competitive,” said Head Coach Jeff Clanagan.
The girls are exceptionally proficient in relays, having won two championships just last year and consistently ranking nationally. The boys have Celifie leading them, with school records in the 100-meter, 200-meter, and 400-meter dashes. Celifie also dominates Calabasas football, with 248 yards and three touchdowns in four games. With rising star power, it’s necessary to spotlight track athletes to help achieve these kinds of results. One of the best ways to do this is by attending the meets and showing support.
“We need to ensure that we give athletes visibility,” said Clanagan.
CHS Track and Field will have their first meet on Saturday, February 24, 2024, at Agoura High School.
