The Los Angeles Dodgers and the Toronto Blue Jays will officially face off in the World Series today, and there is a lot at stake for the two teams.
This is the second year in a row that the Dodgers have made it to the World Series, and they could possibly achieve a second consecutive MLB championship win. The Dodgers went 4-0 in the NLCS Championship against the Brewers, securing their spot in the World Series.
Following the Dodgers’ victory, manager Dave Roberts was able to turn online criticism into motivation for the team.
“They said the Dodgers are ruining baseball,” Roberts said after game 4. “Let’s get four more wins and really ruin baseball.”
The Dodgers’ road to the World Series ran through Cincinnati and Philadelphia, with their only postseason loss in a game against the Phillies. They have a solid path to win the World Series against the Blue Jays and the team could see their 9th Commissioner’s Trophy, 3rd since 1989.
The Blue Jays beat the Seattle Mariners with a final score of 4-3 in Game 7. In the bottom of the 7th inning, Toronto outfielder and designated hitter George Springer hit a three-run homer to the left field crowd. For the first time in this game, Toronto took the lead. The score maintained the same until the end of the game, ensuring that the Blue Jays made it to their first World Series since 1993.
“I’m just so happy for our team, our fans, our city, our country,” Springer had to say. “This is exactly why we love playing here; it’s unbelievably electric. We love every single one of these fans. This is such an unbelievable moment.”
Leo Cavallero, senior at CHS, shares his excitement for his favorite team making the World Series for the fifth time in his lifetime.
“I’ve been watching the Dodgers since I was 6. I can’t believe they are going back to the World Series again,” said Cavellero.
Both teams enter the World Series with momentum and history on the line. The Dodgers look to defend their title, while the Blue Jays hope to bring a championship back to Canada for the first time in 32 years.
