This past week, Principal C.J. Foss’s husband donated an incubator and brooder to house baby quails for the next few weeks in Miss Swanson’s classroom, S2. All students are encouraged to come check out the baby quails and maybe watch some hatch and develop.
Mr. Foss breeds quails and sells them to pet stores. He offered to donate 64 eggs to the CHS science department. Miss Swanson took up the offer to incorporate the development of these quails into her Environmental Biology class. The goal of her experiment is to take the mass of the eggs to see if it affects the hatching.
Although these quails might be cute and fluffy, a specific environment is key to keeping these birds safe and healthy. The incubator and brooder must be kept at a constant temperate of 100 degrees Fahrenheit in order to ensure that the quails develop properly.
Be sure to stop on in S2 to check out these furry creatures… They’ll only be here for a short while longer!
