News Q&A with some of the ASB winners – On April 18, 2013, CHS students voted for new class and school officers for the 2013-2014 school year.
Paige Plaskoff – ASB President
I feel the school will benefit from me as ASB President because I am extremely easygoing and very personable. I want everyone who has a suggestion to voice their opinion. As Community Outreach Commissioner for the past two years, I have seen tons of students at CHS participate in school wide events. Whether students are donating blood or donating a dollar to an organization we are supporting, I have noticed how good volunteer work makes them feel and that is all I could ever ask for.
I plan to keep my self constantly available to my peers whenever they need me. I also plan to create an ASB class that has tons of potential to put on amazing events and to give them the resources to create an overall fun environment for every person at CHS.
The skills I possess that will benefit the Associated Student Body are my experience, dedication and creativity. My experience helps me plan events and activities that will run smoothly and positively impact the CHS community. I am extremely dedicated to my job and love what I do. Also, I feel like my creativity sets me apart from other candidates.
My ASB peers and I have been speaking about Student Senate and keeping that in action. We feel like Student Senate could be the perfect liaison between the student body and ASB, and could give us their feedback from each event we put on. I feel that student feedback is important to increasing attendance and upping the overall morale at CHS.
I feel that an ASB President needs to be positive and excited about the coming year. They need to be very open-minded about new possibilities and ready to take on any hardships that come their way. The job is of course going to get tough at times, but it is important to always remember that we are all in this together. I believe that I have these traits and I cannot wait to show CHS what I can do with them!
For those who are thinking of running next year, do it! If you are feeling unsure or discouraged, take a leap of faith and just go for it. Put your best foot forward and run a positive, clean campaign that you can be proud of, regardless if you win or lose.
Sabrina Sigal – ASB Vice President
I plan to accomplish all of the goals I have set for myself for next year by managing my time wisely and completing tasks on a regular basis rather than procrastinating and finishing jobs last minute.
I have been in ASB for three years now and I feel that my experiences in the class have prepared me for my new role as ASB VP. I also think that my enthusiasm and open mindedness will come in handy for next year.
Easy and efficient ways to communicate with my fellow peers include Facebook but most importantly, having a face-to-face discussion is the best way to communicate with others in my opinion.
My advice for those who are thinking of running next year is to work hard, to have a memorable campaign – because humor is always good and to be enthusiastic.
Mitchell Rosenberg – ASB Treasurer
I think the school will benefit from having me as their ASB Treasurer because I will carefully manage all school funds with precise care in order to ensure that no one is overspending or under spending.
Next year I will make sure to take on my role in ASB with leadership skills and heart. I will make sure that every student’s voice is heard and that every aspect of finance is looked at with careful detail.
I have already had two years of experience in the class. This previous experience will allow me to utilize my good leadership skills, and respect for everyone to the best of my ability.
I will make sure to stay in contact with the class officers and the class as a whole and make sure to always address any and all concerns to the class as well as to the administration.
A treasurer needs to be able to pay attention to detail to make sure that no mistakes are made. I definitely pay close attention to small details, and I am ready to take on the tasks that come with being ASB Treasurer.
Jackelyne Nguyen – Senior President
As Senior Class President, I definitely think my dedication and passion for my class contributes to having a successful year. This will be my third time as class president so I know my peers believe in me to make a fun-filled year as well as plan a successful Prom. With my helpful fellow class officers, we have always and will continue to think of outside of the box fundraisers. I do not make events for the class of 2014 based solely on how I want them to be I try to make them in order to please the majority of the student body. Every year I have asked students to send in shirt designs and we vote on them in the summer. Even though my term technically does not start till the first day of school, I want to make sure our class is involved in every way possible.
My goal has always been to keep giving the students what they want. Whether my team and I are working on the Homecoming Float, Powderpuff or even planning class activities, I want to make sure everyone is on the same page and happy about what is happening. In our class group we try to vote on everything: class shirts, restaurants, when they want a fundraiser and much more.
I have always been told that I am responsible. In all my years of being a part of ASB, I have been one of few who actively use ASB’s online project manager to keep track of all our fundraisers and events. I brought the ideas of using Driver’s Ed Direction, Sky High, Taco Bell and Jamba Juice as a way to raise money along with the help of my officers. Also, as part of the committee who recommends who should be accepted into ASB, my opinion is always unbiased, so I encourage everyone who wants to try out to go for it!
As we have done in the past, I think Facebook is the most convenient and efficient way to communicate with the student body. Facebook allows us to post polls, ask questions and promote class events. All of our class officers for next year are definitely approachable, so social media is not our only resource. My fellow officers and I are also in different friend groups so we are able to talk to a majority of our classmates on a personal level. Student feedback and suggestions are what is going to make next year the most successful year yet!
I believe a class president needs to be organized, dedicated and open-minded. Organization is essential when managing your time between academics and extracurricular classes. Running as an officer is a huge time commitment, so if you do not think you have these characteristics I do not recommend running if you cannot put in the time. Without dedication your job will seem bland and repetitive but because I really do love my class and job, I always try to think of innovative and fun fundraisers! I always ask my friends after an event how they thought it went so I can improve for the next one. If you are not able to take criticism, you are making your job harder and less appealing to the students.
When running for a position, be sure to talk about how you can contribute as a leader and what new ideas you have. Also, do not run for an elected position because it looks good on your resume, run for that position because you truly care about your school and classmates. Trust me, I have seen people run for positions for all the wrong reasons and it is much more fun when you actually are passionate about what you are doing. Even if you do not win, ASB has commissioner positions that may end up being a better match for you.
Jessica Fuld – Senior Vice President
I plan to listen to all of my peer’s ideas and concerns and answer any questions they present me with. I am all about unity and I want the class to come together and have an amazing senior year together.
I definitely consider myself a very social person. I love seeing the joy of each and everyone of my peers at class nights, pep rallies, dances and other school events.
I plan to stay communicated with my class and school by the utilization of our senior class Facebook group. This group allows everyone to come together to learn about upcoming events and get their questions answered. Also, I love when people come up to me at school and ask me questions. I am always more than happy to answer them!
I think any member of ASB needs to be dedicated, passionate, friendly, organized and overall lead by example. I believe I have these traits!
Sierra Smith – Senior Historian
The school and students will benefit from me as senior historian because I will try my hardest to not leave anyone out.
I plan to attend every school event and to capture all the important moments that the seniors have next year so that nothing will be forgotten throughout the 2013-2014 school year.
I have had many years of photo experience at this school and outside this school taking pictures. I have a passion for photography, and I feel that ASB will benefit from my love for photography because of the skills I have obtained over the years.
I plan to listen to everyone’s ideas and regularly ask on what they think can be improved and will do my best to fulfill everyone’s wishes.
For people running next year, I would advise that they have multiple years of photo experience and that they regularly attend many school events because that is a big part of being in ASB.
Anna Winter – Junior President
As junior class president I will raise a lot of money so that we can have the best prom. I also want to create more class unity through fun activities.
I will always work hard and put 110 % in everything I do.
I am very easy to talk too and I will always listen to people and do my best to incorporate their ideas.
I will make sure to be in constant contact with all students and always be open to their ideas.
A class president should express traits of leadership, dedication and honesty. I do my best to portray these traits in all of my actions.
My best advice for people running next year is to just work hard and stay dedicated. Never give up and always believe in yourself.
Caroline Resnick – Junior Vice President
As junior class vice president, I believe people will benefit by having a better experience next year and hopefully contribute more as a class.
To live up to my promises, I will make sure to get the opinions and suggestions of a large number of students and reach out to different groups. I will hold online voting for next year’s class shirts to make sure that people are happy with them.
I possess skills such as being confident, trustworthy, and I am able to get things done in an exciting and efficient manner.
I look forward to working with Anna and Tara to keep in touch with our student class by running a Facebook group and talking to people as much as possible during the school day.
A class vice president needs to have leadership, commitment and dedication to do what is right and good for the study body as a whole. I certainly believe I have these traits and will be able to succeed next year in ASB to do what is needed and wanted by my fellow classmates.
If you are running next year, be confident and present yourself in an approachable and comfortable way. Do not be afraid to fight for your own desires no matter what other might think.
Tara Hadipour – Junior Historian
For the people running next year, just remember to stay positive and never doubt yourself. Make sure to spread all your great ideas in a positive way as well.
As historian, I will do my best to get more pictures of our class. I want to ensure that everyone remembers our next step in high school.
I will go to all the class nights and activities with my camera in hand, and will try my hardest to capture all our wonderful moments.
Traits that allow me to communicate well with others include my ability to put the needs and desires of the student body before my own.
Anyone who wants to contact me is free to message me on Facebook or suggest any ideas in the class of 2015 group page.
A historian should definitely have some skill in photography, which I feel that I possess. Also, any class representative should display qualities of leadership, dedication, and amiability.
For the people running next year, just remember to stay positive and never doubt yourself. Make sure to spread all your great ideas in a positive way as well.
Candice Matsumura – Sophomore President
My new ideas and suggestions that apply to commissionerships, clubs, and other classes will hopefully be taken into consideration. I hope that my determination to create an amazing sophomore year will set an example to other classes, and especially to incoming Freshmen.
I have written down my ideas for next year and it will serve as my planner. I made a promise to my class and I will follow through with it no matter what.
I have many ideas I can contribute to other commissionerships in ASB that will benefit the class and school as a whole. I have a positive spirit and am always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone in the Associated Student Body.
This past year, we created a Freshman Group on Facebook in which I post regularly on. Students are always participating and getting involved through this page. They constantly ask questions and express their ideas/opinions about class shirts, pep rallies, and class nights that I value greatly and integrate into the decisions made.
A Class President should have responsibility, leadership, and communication skills; I believe I possess these traits. I always make sure things get done and before the dead line as well. I also find myself constantly stepping forward to take charge of a situation. I always listen to and encourage ideas from my class and make sure to incorporate them into the decisions made. Students are reminded about upcoming events and encouraged to participate in them through my posts on the Facebook page and also through face-to-face reminders.
Susan Ismael – Sophomore Vice President
As vice president I hope to create a successful prom, but it will take a lot of hard work. I believe I have the power to help plan the best prom possible and make it come to life.
My election promises will happen because I will work my absolute hardest to create a year students will remember forever.
I think I am a leader, confident, and an over-achiever.
I have been able to get in touch with my fellow classmates by text, email, and Facebook. I use these because I can speak to a large group of students at once and I believe that using these social media sites it will help me better communicate with my class.
A sophomore vice president should be someone who could take charge of a handful of work and so far I have been able to complete my job and am glad to continue this next year.
If you are running next year always stay positive. Running in a campaign is something to be proud of!
Sami Herzog – Sophomore Historian
I have a lot of new and creative ideas to share for events, fundraisers, shirt designs, etc. that will really allow the sophomore class to stand out compared to the rest of the school.
When I ran freshmen year, I promised to take amazing pictures that would capture the best memories from high school, and since then I’ve kept that promise. I fully intend to continue taking pictures of everyone and making sure I upload them on Facebook.
I am really organized and creative. I think keeping the school organized and having new, fun events is the most important thing in ASB. By doing this the students enjoy school and all the events CHS has to offer.
I am always open to hearing everyone’s opinions for every event, shirt design and fundraiser because we are a class together, so we should decide together.
I think an ASB member must be creative, friendly, organized and sociable. I think I have all of these traits and I also think being in ASB makes you an even better version of yourself.
RUN! It’s a lot of fun running a campaign, even if you don’t win, and if you do win you’ll have the best time in ASB!
