This year CHS will not be having early finals for the senior class. Instead, the administration decided to have one set of finals for the entire school in order for teachers to participate in the Senior Breakfast and to simplify the schedule during the week of finals.
This conclusion was not decided solely by the administration, for an academic meeting was held with the department heads where the teachers discussed the benefits of modifying the schedule and what the changes would entail. They came to the conclusion that all finals should be conducted during the scheduled finals week at the end of second semester.
“Although I appreciate the sentiment of allowing seniors more time to study, I do not agree with cramming everyone’s finals into the last week of school.” said senior Thomas Selstad. “As if things weren’t hectic enough, I now have to worry about a gauntlet of consecutive finals and reschedule the morning of my graduation.”
Because of this change, the senior breakfast will now be held on June 13 and graduation practice will be held afterward. According to Assistant Principal Mr. Mercer, graduation practice could last anywhere from one to three hours. The administration’s goal for practice is to start at 10 a.m. and end at noon on the day of graduation, allowing seniors time to go home, celebrate and prepare for the graduation ceremony.
