Recently, Calabasas city officials have begun finalizing an ongoing condominium project, the Village at Calabasas. On July 25, the Calabasas Planning Commission approved a plan submitted by joint partners D2 Development and The New Home Company to demolish the Calabasas Inn and redevelop it. The accepted proposal calls for 220,468 square feet of mixed-use development. The proposed project is known as The Village at Calabasas, an area that will consist mainly of 72 luxury-style condominium homes and eight affordable-income apartments. This project is currently being headed by luxury home and residential developer, The New Home Company.
The project will feature Italian-style architecture, designed by the Robert Hidey Architects firm. Residents at The Village will have access to a wide variety of services. Construction will emulate luxury style housing with resort-style amenities, including a spa, a swimming pool, outdoor lounges, a community garden, picnic areas and exercise stations. In addition, The New House Company is basing construction on “Green Building” standards, which will make water and energy use more efficient. Some features that will be incorporated in to the environmental design include reclaimed water cisterns, drought tolerant plants, water conserving fixtures, courtyard green screens and designs to minimize solar reflection and radiation. In addition to the residential units, there will be 10,700 square feet of intended commercial use, including restaurants and a day spa.
“I think that the Village at Calabasas will be a great addition to the community,” said senior Roxanne Keramati. “[The Village at Calabasas] will offer a place for people to live, eat, work and socialize all in the same local area.”
As city officials wait for plans to be completely approved, they are looking to plan a date for the start of construction. An anticipated grand opening is set for early 2015.
