Due to the high demand from the San Fernando Valley residents to create a community complex with more shops and restaurants, the Warner Center is expanding into an even larger complex called The Village at Westfield Topanga. Adjacent to the Topanga Mall and The Promenade 16, The Village at Westfield will span 31 football fields, making it the third largest shopping center in the United States.
This community multiplex will contain new renovated shops such as Urban Outfitters, Neiman Marcus, H&M, Nordstrom, Anthropologie and new local boutiques. The promenade will also include new restaurants; a wine gazebo; a Gourmet Marketplace; offices; a hotel; a Costco; a beauty, health and wellness center including a spa, gym and yoga studio and a multipurpose community space filled with public art displays, water fountains and gardens.
“The Village will add a new sense of culture and life to the Valley,” said junior Kirsten Goldenberg. “It will be nice to get to choose between a variety of new stores and restaurants to go to with friends and family.”
Due to the many attractions within The Village, this new $750 million project will create approximately 3,046 construction jobs and 4,454 permanent jobs for the community members. The project is estimated to generate nearly $636 million in total economic output per year and approximately $9.4 million each year in tax revenues for the city of Los Angeles.
“The Village is going to be an excellent way to bring in money for the community,” said junior Alexa Mulne. “It will be very beneficial socially and economically.”
The Village will feature pedestrian friendly access to and from the complex, as well as bike lanes, transit stops and outdoor dining including patios and courtyards. Although many new attractions will be added, the old attractions, such as the American Multi-Cinema Promenade 16 Movie Theater, will remain untouched.
After the majority of restaurant and outdoors spaces are completed, the development of the hotel and office community centers are expected to be constructed in 2016.
