State to drop mask mandate as of March 11

On Feb. 28, Superintendent Dr. Dan Stepenosky announced via email that, pending Los Angeles County guidance, masks will be optional for all LVUSD students and staff as of March 14. Masks will still be heavily recommended for inside settings.

Gov. Gavin Newsom announced that starting March 1 in California, the mask mandate will be lifted for most indoor events, no matter vaccination status. Beginning March 11, the state will no longer require masks in child care facilities, such as schools.

“If LACDPH follows the state’s guidance, the Las Virgenes Unified School District will allow masks to be optional for all students and staff beginning on Monday, March 14, 2022,” said Stepenosky in an announcement.

Though LVUSD will not be enforcing masks, students and staff may still choose to wear masks for their own safety. The district wants to ensure the health of the community.

We appreciate the fact that many of our staff and students will continue to choose to wear masks while indoors at school, and we will ensure that they feel free and safe to do so,” said Stepenosky.

LVUSD will continue to stay updated with the changing protocols based on CDC, CDPH and LACDPH guidelines.
