As the school year approaches its end, the various class presidents look over their past year. For the 2024-2025 school year, the Class Presidents are Olivia Wohlwend(Freshman), Michel Chen(Sophomore), Michel Bronshteyn(Junior), and Devin Anderson(Senior).
As the freshman Class President, Wohlwend has been learning the ropes and responsibilities of being a Class President.
“I wanted to be able to see how the student body was run and be there to support the freshman class and also learn the ropes throughout the school itself. The first half of the year was a lot about figuring out how it all works, but now I want to be able to figure out issues within the freshman class and work to improve those,” said Wohlwend.
She has been enjoying her time as class president and has had a good experience. She has been working on different fundraisers for the school and also coming up with a fun event for freshmen towards the end of the year.
“I just want to make sure that we fundraise enough to support the whole class and do what we want to accomplish,” said Wohlwend
Bronshteyn has been Vice President for his freshman and sophomore years and is now Class President for his Junior year.
“I enjoy the experience, this is my third year in ASB now. I decided to run for Class President because I wanted to make a bigger impact for my grade and eventually the school, and I thought I would have a better position to do that,” said Bronshteyn.
Recently, he has been helping the school and fundraising money with ASB by selling Valentine’s Day grams, and in the past, they have also had “Pie a Teacher,” which was an event where teachers and students were engaged.
Bronshteyn focuses on making sure all student body members are heard, and also fundraising for the junior class.
“I think there is a learning curve in figuring out what works out well at our school and what doesn’t. Also, how to communicate with not only people in your class but also teachers, admin, and the faculty,” said Bronshteyn.
Senior Devyn Anderson has enjoyed being Class President for her last year here at Calabasas High School. Anderson has been a part of ASB for all four years of her high school experience. During freshman year, she was a Historian, Vice-President for her Sophomore and Junior years, and now Class President for her senior year. She likes to fundraise for her class and find new ways to bring her grade together and increase participation.
“This year, specifically for seniors, my job is to plan prom and other activities. Right now I’m in the mix of things for prom. Like junior year, we picked the location, and now we are figuring out the decorations,” said Anderson.
A common challenge that Anderson has noticed over the past 4 years is getting people to participate.
“It’s been relatively smooth sailing, but something that has honestly been challenging is getting people to participate. We have to get people to do nutrition games and stuff like that, and it’s almost impossible; no one wants to do them. Or if we do a class night, maybe only 20 people will come. So I would say that has been the biggest challenge,” said Anderson.
As this school year ends, so does the ASB officers’ job. Each position is up for election in May, and all current Presidents must run for reelection if they choose.
The sophomore class president, Michael Chen, refused to comment.
