Q: Dear Chelsea,
I’m a new freshman and although I have made some new friends, I am having a difficult time adjusting to this new school. I’m kind of shy, so making new friends is hard. How do I make new friendships with people who are already in their set cliques?
Sincerely, Cliqueless Loser
A: Dear Cliqueless Loser,
Although facing an entirely new high school may seem daunting at first, don’t be afraid! It takes a lot of courage and self confidence to approach strangers who are already exclusive and set in their own groups. The number one pointer I can give you is to let go of your fears and talk to someone! To do this, there are many school events that can help you meet new people and make friends. Join a club or school sports team where you can develop a sense of family with your fellow peers. If you be yourself and let your true personality shine, then people will be naturally attracted to you. Don’t try to be someone you’re not because you will end up either very unhappy or caught in a web of lies. Remember that almost everyone has some trouble making new friends. It’s up to you to stand up, take a chance, and meet new people. Who cares if you get a weird look once in a while? Make high school the best years of your life, and spend it with friends that will last forever!
