CHS routs Crescenta Valley, 44-6
Calabasas High School faced the Crescenta Valley Falcons on September 17th, and won in a good team blowout win.
The game started on a high note for the Coyotes as they managed to capitalize on a muffed punt from the Cresenta Hill Falcons. However, CHS got stopped at the goal line and was unable to convert on fourth down. The Calabasas defense held their own by getting a safety and turnover on downs on back-to-back defensive drives.
The Falcons proved to do nothing on offense as they immediately fumbled the ball, allowing the Coyotes to recover at the Falcons’ 28 yard-line. Following this, the Coyotes scored with a touchdown run by Steven Rauso. Sean Stepenosky converted the PAT to give the Coyotes a 9-0 lead.
The Calabasas defensive power continued as the Coyotes got an interception on an overthrow and Calabasas returned the interception to their own 45 yard-line. Calabasas took advantage of this turnover and King Miller was able to rush in a touchdown to give the Coyotes a 16-0 lead.
The Falcon’s lone score would come off a jet sweep and narrow the Coyotes lead to 10 going into the half.
The Coyotes started with the ball at the start of the half and did not waste any time as Steven Rauso started off the drive with a 29 yard run. King Miller then caught a long touchdown that made the score 23-6.
Sophomore running back Josh Nazmiyev then helped grow the lead with a 60 yard run.
“I’ve always been the undersized kid and I’m just glad to get my opportunity,” said Nazmiyev.
Calabasas took full advantage of Nazmiyev’s long run and finished that drive with another Steven Rauso rushing touchdown. Calabasas then scored on another rushing touchdown by King Miller to make the score 30-6.
The night for Calabasas kept getting better as Domata Peko Jr. scored a touchdown on defense through a massive scoop and score. Calabasas was able to pick up their third win of the season and will be on the road this week in a matchup against Agoura.
