Finals will be different for the 2024-2025 school year. Instead of having all four finals after winter break, they will be split up with two finals occurring in December, before winter break, and two in January following the holiday break. Assistant principal, Corrine Musgrove, has provided the details regarding the new finals schedule.
“Per the new board policy, two finals must be given prior to winter break. The reasoning behind this is to help with the workload for students,” Musgrove said.
The English and Social Studies departments will give final exams before winter break during the week of December 16th. The teachers will communicate the exact days. When students come back from winter break, they will still have those classes, but no major tests or projects are allowed to be given. The finals for the Math and science departments and electives will be the week of January 22nd.
“I know at least for my classes, we are working on some projects and will do a presentation. For the freshman class, in January we will do some of the stuff that was effective in Freshman Seminar,” said Brad Boelman, social studies teacher.
Anush Chalian, a math teacher, believes this will benefit students.
“I think it will help students if the finals are spread out,” said Chalian.
Freshman Sienna Matian was glad to hear about the new schedule for finals this year. Coming from AC Stelle, where finals were also after winter break, this will also be a big change for her.
“I think it will help with my workload because we can focus on two subjects instead of all of them at the same time,” Matian said.
