At approximately 1:10 today, CHS was put on “secure” protocol for around 10 minutes. Over the loudspeaker, Principal Wutkee called for all teachers to lock their classroom doors, disallow anyone to go to the bathroom, and continue teaching.
“Calabasas High School staff received a report that one of our students might be in possession of a firearm,” said Wutkee via ParentSquare.
According to a ParentSquare email, Wutkee said the administrative team placed the school on “secure” status. Law enforcement was called and determined no gun was found.
“It was determined that there was no weapon on campus and there was no threat to student safety. ‘Secure’ status was lifted at approximately 1:20,” said Wutkee via ParentSquare.
Wutkee stated that he received concerns from a student and urged students to say something if they see something.
According to literature distributed by CHS, a “secure” status differs from a “lockdown” status. A “secure” status emphasizes getting inside, locking doors, and “doing business as usual,” while during a “lockdown,” students and teachers must also turn off the lights, move away from sight, and maintain silence.
