Editor’s Pick: Top 10 Best Looks from the 2021 Met Gala

Every year, people from all around the world look forward to seeing the iconic looks from the biggest event in the fashion world: The Met Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City. With this year’s theme, “In America: A Lexicon of Fashion,” the celebrities were asked to incorporate a sense of American pride in some way, shape or form into their outfits. From colorful, one-of-a-kind gowns to elegant sheer dresses, the majority of the celebrities at this year’s Met Gala, once again, did not disappoint.

 

10. Stephen and Ayesha Curry

NBA star, Stephen Curry, wore a navy Versace blazer with gold, detailed embellishment. Escorting his wife, Ayesha, Curry conveyed his idea of American fashion by channeling an iconic suit that Gianni Versace made for Michael Jackson. Ayesha Curry’s customized jewelry embellished on her customized Versace dress was the perfect accent to make a fashion statement as a couple.

9. Nicola Peltz

Nicola Peltz, Brooklyn Beckham’s soon-to-be wife, made her debut on the Met Gala red carpet wearing a detailed, pink gown by Valentino Couture. As beautiful as the dress was, especially with the matching rose gloves, Peltz could have implemented more details into her outfit to follow the theme of American fashion. Although she did not directly depict American fashion, Peltz’s dress was still classy and safe as a first-timer at the gala.

8. Ben Platt

Ben Platt’s motive to portray American fashion was shown through a customized Canadian tuxedo by Christian Cowan. Styled by Jason Rembert, Platt’s vintage, flared denim embellished in blue rhinestones was a simple, yet stylish, choice to wear at his appearance on the carpet.

7. Chance the Rapper

Chance the Rapper incorporated the national colors of America in his Ralph Lauren suit. Decked out in red, white and blue, the famous rapper made sure to stick to his own style, representing his hometown in Chicago, while also taking a fashion risk in his flashy patterns. Debuting his outfit in an Instagram post, Chance the Rapper dedicates his Met Gala attire to Jose Hustle, Young Dro and other Ralph Lauren representatives.

6. Maluma

Colombian singer and songwriter, Maluma, took American fashion to the next level with his western-inspired Versace outfit. Not only did he go bold in all-red, but the set was detailed in red fringe and silver and gold studs. The final touch to Maluma’s iconic outfit was being accompanied by the designer of the outfit, Donatella Versace.

5. Amanda Gorman

Amanda Gorman’s political impact at President Joe Biden’s inauguration in 2020 was carried on in her Vera Wang dress. Inspired by the Statue of Liberty, Gorman’s small details within the dress served as symbols of the welcoming of America. Her book-shaped clutch bag tied the entire piece together, representing both fashion creativity and her purpose to encourage reading and knowledge.

4. Anok Yai

Anok Yai’s Oscar de la Renta dress was one of the most chic, timeless outfits of the night. She interpreted the theme by correlating it with the concept of “Old Hollywood,” which is why her dress was inspired by a dress that French entertainer, Josephine Baker, wore in 1928.

3. Kendall Jenner

Kendall Jenner has been notorious for her over-the-top Met Gala looks since her first appearance in 2014. Once again, Jenner went above and beyond in her jewel-embellished Givenchy dress. Putting a more enchanting twist on Audrey Hepburn’s dress in “My Fair Lady,” Jenner’s look was another one for the books.

2. Imaan Hammam

Victoria Secret model, Imaan Hammam, found the perfect balance between following the American fashion theme, while also keeping it dressy and risqué. The archived Versace dress was white, one of the national colors of America, with silver details surrounding cut out stars in the dress. Hammam executed the theme to a tee and pulled off a look that will forever be remembered from the 2021 Met Gala.

1. Karlie Kloss

Karlie Kloss’s custom, bold Carolina Herrera dress stole the show from the second she stepped on the carpet. Designed by Wes Gordon, Kloss’s eye-catching look was inspired by the national flower of America: a red rose. The extravagant red gown with the matching rose clutch embodied the overall idea of American fashion. The inspiration behind the outfit adds even more drama to the already extravagant dress, and creates for the most iconic look of the night.
